{"id":2,"date":"2019-06-29T08:13:51","date_gmt":"2019-06-29T15:13:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jmathpage.com\/wpjmp\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2021-09-26T10:22:11","modified_gmt":"2021-09-26T17:22:11","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.jmathpage.com\/wpjmp\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jmathpage.com\/wpjmp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Big-image-past-1.png\" alt=\"Big image past\" itemprop=\"image\" height=\"1158\" width=\"533\" title=\"Big image past\" onerror=\"this.style.display='none'\">\n\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jmathpage.com\/contact-johnnie\/\" target=\"_self\" role=\"button\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tContact Me\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<h3>About Johnnie&#8217;s Math Page<\/h3>\n<p>Johnnie&#8217;s Math Page is built for fun and exploration.<\/p>\n<p>I built the first version of this website.&nbsp; I worked as a math coach at a school that had not performed well on state tests and needed some help- especially in math.<\/p>\n<p>I worked with teachers to better math teaching practices.&nbsp; I taught groups of students as well- some who just needed some help to get better at math and some who were interested in math and just needed some challenge and encouragement.<\/p>\n<p>The only room available at the school for teaching these small groups was the computer lab.&nbsp; So you can imagine how Johnnie&#8217;s Math Page came into being.<\/p>\n<p>The first version contained about 30 sites worth visiting.&nbsp; I was fortunate to have the page hosted by Lloyd Tabb&#8217;s portal everyschool.org.&nbsp; I was fortunate to have the Kathy Schrock post the site as &#8220;Site of the Day&#8221; on her portal for teachers.&nbsp; I built and rebuilt the site as it became more popular.&nbsp; Early versions featured many Flash activities.&nbsp; The present version is tablet and chromebook friendly.<\/p>\n<p>I was an elementary teacher, teaching mostly fifth grade.&nbsp; I completed my Master&#8217;s Degree in Curriculum and Teacher Education at Stanford University.&nbsp; I studied mathematics education as a doctoral student at the University of California, Santa Cruz.&nbsp; I teach courses at the University for beginning teachers and courses for teaching mathematics to children.&nbsp; I also contribute to the California Mathematics Council and am on the advisory board for the California Mathematics Project.&nbsp; I regularly present at conferences.<\/p>\n<p>I work with schools in California and abroad.&nbsp; I spent a number of years as a middle school math teacher and teacher coach in Munich Germany.&nbsp; Most recently I taught as teacher in residence at the Istanbul International Community School.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\t<h3>Consulting<\/h3>\n<p>I am interested in working with projects and programs that promote good math learning and teaching.&nbsp; Do contact me about possibilities.<\/p>\n\t<h3>Find me on Social Media<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/jmathpage\/\">Johnnie&#8217;s Math Page on Facebook<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/johnnie_wilson?lang=en\">Johnnie on Twitter<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Contact Me About Johnnie&#8217;s Math Page Johnnie&#8217;s Math Page is built for fun and exploration.
